Born in Cork and studied languages at the University College Dublin before moving to London, Sue Uda worked for six years gaining invaluable training with Grand Metropolitan Hotels in London at the Mandeville, Britannia and Mayfair before moving to the other side of the business with Saintseal Travel/Pegasus Holidays for another 6 years.
Saintseal was one of the first tour operators who operated time charters and moved large numbers from Italy, Spain, Germany, Austria and Portugal to London and the UK – after 6 years there, nothing can ever happen in travel which will surprise Sue!
Sue moved to Country Homes and Castle, a small exclusive handling agent, dealing primarily with the top end of the US market where she became a director in 1986. In 1989 she moved back to Dublin after 20 years and founded A Touch of Ireland from the kitchen table – all her clients from London days were asking her to offer Ireland programmes!! The company grew quickly dealing with USA and Italian markets.
In 1996, she was responsible for establishing SITE Ireland in Dublin – prior, the chapter was Great Britain and Ireland based in London. She was President and Secretary for many years as the chapter grew and flourished. She chaired the Business Tourist Working Group for Meet in Ireland, sits on the Dublin Tourism City Working Group – planning the next 10 years of development in Dublin, and is on the Executive of ITOA – the Irish Tour Operators Association.
Sue is always busy building great businesses. In 1997 Sue Uda set up Conference Partners which she sold her shares later.
In 2000, she set up Global Teamwork which handles outbound MICE business from the UK and Ireland – She still owns 50% of this successful company.
This year is A Touch of Ireland‘s 30th birthday!!!! They are still regarded as the top DMC dealing with Italian business in Ireland. They have developed a very good client base in Spain, the UK and the USA, along with France, Germany and all over the world!
Today they have 11 full-time staff who are multilingual. Their business mix is 60% MICE (incentives and Conferences) and 40% leisure which consist of high-end leisure from USA and leisure tour groups from Italy and Spain.
